Rush

Nov 3 2007 - Rush's adrenaline was up along with everybody else's during the epic conditions on the Chesapeake today for the IRC East Coast Champs.  Needless to say, fitting conditions for a Storm Trysail Club event. See the photos.

Split Line
J105 North Americans
Nov 2 2007 - Half of the J105s that competed in 2007 J105 North Americans still made for an impressive line.  Imagine if they had let them all start on the same line.  Almost 70 boats and serious breeze gave the 105s a memorable NAs at Annapolis Yacht Club.  Masquerade was the winner for the second year in a row. See the photos.

High Speed

Oct 20 2007 - Team Gill in motion in the Melges 24 Northeast District Champs today in Annapolis.  The conditions couldn't have been better for photos. See more!  Check out the Annapolis M24 page for more info.

Dinghy Fever

Oct 19 2007 - The 505ers were loving life with 15 knots gusting to 20 after a week of slowly building breeze during their NAs on the Chesapeake.  These sailors are hardcore on the water and just as active on land.  Their NAs included bike rides and daily debriefing sessions complete with Kattack race tracking. See more photos of these cool dinghies in action.  More about the 505 class.

Tight pack

Oct 13 2007 - It was one-design competition at its best in today's Etchells Long Island Sound Champs in Greenwich.  The weekend's weather was absolutely perfect for capturing these good-looking boats in action. See more photos.

Planing in under 10

Oct 7 2007 - These high performance dinghies off AYC spent most of the day waiting for the fluky wind to stop shifting. But as soon as it rolled in these little boats really picked up and went. Check out the photos.

Hike Harder

Sept 29 2007 - J120 Eagle screams into the finish at the AYC Fall series today as a gust slams into them almost causing a broach. These crew really had to hang on! Click Here to see the photos. They are a must see!

12 action
12s in action
Sept 28 2007 - Nefertiti and Intrepid push through the chop in the Connecticut Maritime Association 12meter Regatta.  Eight 12s raced in a gusty offshore breeze on Long Island Sound. See the photos.

Last Chance

Sept 15 2007 - Catherine Shanahan planes downwind in today's action at the Last Chance US Olympic Qualifier held in Westport, CT.  Eight men and seven women will go on to the team trials in Newport later this month.  All sailors enjoyed ideal conditions today.  Don't miss these photos.

105 parade

Sept 8 2007 - Kincsem leads the J105 fleet to windward in today's Sailing World NOOD race in Larchmont.  Not much breeze, but heavy competition.  Kincsem won in the 22-boat J105 fleet.  See more photos.

Past and Present

Sept 1 2007 - The classic yachts and some modern yachts share a nice offshore breeze, clear weather, and space in the lower Narraganset Bay today.  See more classic yacht photos.

Them and Me

Aug 31 2007 - The Gracie crew looking good on their way to victory in the IRC Zero division in Stamford Yacht Club's Vineyard Race.  Good job crew and good job to whoever waxes this yacht- check out the self portrait below the feet. More Vineyard Race photos.

Before the Storm

Aug 17 2007 - Soulmate passes by the Darien coast just after the start of the Stamford Overnight.  These boats, some double-handing, went through a thunderstorm that produced 40+ knots during the night. See more photos.

Honey, you're pinching

Aug 26 2007 - Jeff and Amy on their way to victory in the Flying Scot Wife-Husband Championship regatta at Cedar Point Yacht Club.  Most of the steamy weekend seemed better for catching Bluefish, but we did get 10 knots for a brief period today.  See more photos.

Hard Core

Aug 18 2007 - Two Shields cross during today's NAs action off of Newport.  These classic one designs were pushing their limits in gusts to 30mph of breeze.  The photos are a must see.

5 knots
August 12 2007 - Andrew port tacks the laser fleet just after the start during today's YRALIS Champs laser action.  The Lasers were just about the only boats worthy of the word action today but what can we say...it is Long Island Sound in August.  Check out some more shots, including PHRF fleet and One Designs here.

Great Start
August 9 2007 - Atlantic Nationals kicked off today with perfect conditions- SE breeze 15+, clear skies, and bright sun.   The photos say it all.  Click here to read the history of the Atlantic.

Doldrums plus 10
August 8 2007 - The 40-boat Wednesday night racing fleet in Westport welcomed some breeze tonight.  The 10-15 knot Westerly, though dying, was a big improvement over July's doldrums.  With steady wind and nice light, these boats looked great.  See more photos.

Across the Sound
July 28 2007 - Over 300 hardcore paddlers glide into the sunrise early Saturday morning on their way across Long Island Sound from Norwalk to Northport.  To learn more about the event, click here. To see the pictures, click here.

Singlehanding?
July 20 2007 - In this photo Jim appears to be singlehanding Moneypenny, but it was a through a team effort that hull # 007 took first place overall in the Swan American Regatta in Newport this week. See more photos, click here.

Heavy Seabreeze for Newport Regatta

July 15 2007 - A dinghy in a trough provides an interesting perspective.  The seas made for some dramatic photos off the coast of Newport today.  See more.  Although the waves were tossing the keelboats around like dinghies, I only had to pluck one MOB out of the water...

Overlap
July 8 2007 - Overlap gives me a reason to clean my lens on the way to winning their division at the 2007 Red Grant Regatta.  Raritan Yacht Club threw a good party and mother nature threw a good race with 15-20 knots.

Kopp/Costello take Law Trophy
July 3 2007 - Brendan Kopp executes one of many first-class mark roundings as crew Mike Costello is busy prepping the chute.  PYC's Kopp/Costello took first in the Law Trophy with a 9-point lead and a nearly perfect record.  The Laser Standard and Radial winners were Cam Cullman from AYC and LYC's Matthew Zupon, respectively.  All sailors enjoyed a challenging day on Monday with a shifty offshore breeze with gusts to 20 knots.

Blue Yankee Solid and Steady

Perfect Kaos in Portland
June 16 2007 - Composure is a better word to describe Frers 41 Kaos' win and the Portland YC Pilot Regatta in general.  42 boats joined the racing in Casco Bay this weekend in one of the growing events for the well-run PYCs race series.

Ragtime: Three Races, Three Bullets

Courageous Cuts Through the Fog

June 8 2007 - 12 Meter Courageous takes #1 in NYYC's Around The Island Race in the 12m division. Courageous beat USA by 2min and 8sec in this 18.92nm race around Conanicut Island. Soon after the start, the Newport fog rolled in and zero visibility made it interesting for the 62 competing boats. For more photos click here.

Mumm 30 Sixx Pulls Ahead
June 3rd 2007 - A growing Mumm 30 fleet at CPYC's One Design Regatta made for some tight racing. Other winners include J105 Revelation and J30 Smiles. Go to www.cedarpointyc.org to find out how to be a part of next year's action.

Rambler Takes Advantage of Wind Aloft
May 25 2007 - It was relatively light wind and I had a hard time catching up to this 90ft beast with my 12ft dinghy, traveling 19kts to get this shot. Rambler won overall in the Block Island Race, held by Storm Trysail Club.

Christopher Dragon Mothers Day Victory
May 13 2007 - Mothers around Fairfield County enjoyed a wonderful brunch with their sons and daughters who did not get the chance to give Christopher Dragon a run for their money during the Greenwich Cup this spring.

And the wind blew!
May 6th 2007 - Swan 45 Devotion and crew look pretty as they take home 1st place overall during the American Spring Series. This just might be the last of the wind in Long Island Sound until the Fall.  See more AYC photos.
